Santogold (name: Santi White) is an alternative musician, songwriter, and producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States who has been active since 2003. She is best known for the song L.E.S. Artistes which became a hit in the UK (where it hit #27) and on American alternative rock radio (which propelled it to #36 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart). Santogold was lead singer of the Philadelphia-based punk rock/ska band Stiffed, but while in the band, she was offered a solo contract. Working with fellow Stiffed member John Hill as co-producer, she recorded her debut album, Santogold, which was released in April 2008. Santigold's style has been defined as a mix of dub, electronica, indie rock, new wave, and alternative rock. As of February 2009 Santogold has changed her name to "Santigold", spelled with an "i", because she was sued in 2008 by Santo Gold, a jeweller, filmmaker and infomercial-based salesman.
