Babylon Zoo formed in the early 90s and are best known for their debut single 'Spaceman' from the 1996 album The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes. The song was used in a Levi's advert and became a huge international hit and also held the record for the fastest-selling debut single until Britney Spears released 'Baby... One More Time' in 1999. The group is essentially singer/songwriter/musician/producer Jas Mann from the West Midlands. He described the music of Babylon Zoo as 'intergalactic space rock for the 21st century'. The sound is a mixture of styles including grunge, rock, indie and electronica. Two further singles were released in 1996: 'Animal Army' and 'The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes', but did not replicate the success of Spaceman, and Babylon Zoo are subsequently regarded as one-hit-wonders. In 1998, a second album was released in Europe called King Kong Groover. The single released from it was 'All the Money's Gone'. The album was a flop and in 1999 Jas Mann and his record company, EMI, parted.
