Lisa Loeb was born in Bethesda, Maryland on March 11, 1968 to Jewish-American parents. The family eventually settled in Dallas, Texas. She is best known for the US #1 single "Stay (I Missed You)" and follow up Top 20 hits "Do You Sleep?" and "I Do". After high school Lisa attended Brown University in Rhode Island where she formed Liz and Lisa with friend Elizabeth Mitchell. After moving to New York and playing coffee shops, friend Ethan Hawke convinced the producers of the movie "Reality Bites" to use Lisa's song "Stay (I Missed You)". The song hit #1 for three weeks in the summer of 1994, making Lisa the first unsigned artist to have a number one song in the history of the Billboard charts. After signing with Geffen records Lisa and her band Nine Stories released the Grammy-nominated "Tails" which gave them a second top 20 hit with the song "Do You Sleep"; "Taffy" and "Waiting For Wednesday" also charted. "Firecracker" was released in the fall of 1997. The album featured the hit "I Do", which performed remarkably well in the pop and adult contemporary charts, helping the album achieve gold status. "How" and "Let's Forget About It" were also popular tracks. 2002 finally saw the release of Lisa's third album "Cake and Pie." The album charted for a week at #199 and did not yield any hit singles. The album was only a success in Japan and other Asian countries where Lisa maintains a strong fan base. "Hello Lisa" and the critically praised "The Way It Really Is" and "Catch The Moon" (with old pal Liz Mitchell) soon followed. http://www.lisaloeb.com
